British Airways möchte das Boarding automatisieren, sicherer und schneller machen. Die Briten lieben ihre CCTV Kameras und was läge dann nicht näher, als von den Passagieren biometrische Daten zu sammeln. Seit einem halben Jahr sind versuchsweise automatisiere biometrische Gates in Heathrow T5 in Betrieb:
“The gates create a smoother journey for customers as they travel through the airport, with travellers scanning their own boarding pass when they arrive at the gate and then simply walking through to the aircraft.
A digital facial scan of the customer is recorded when they travel through security, and when they arrive at the gate, their face is matched with this representation when they present their boarding pass – allowing them to board the aircraft.”

Seit Dezember läuft der Versuch auch in Los Angeles:
“The new technology, created by Vision-Box, will create a smoother journey for customers, as they will no longer need to present their passport or boarding pass at the gate – only at check in and security. Instead travellers can simply look into a camera prior to boarding, wait for their biometric data to be verified, and then walk onto the aircraft.”

In London stehen also diese Schilder rum. Eigentlich sind diese Versuche freiwillig, wie man aber nicht gescannt werden kann, weiß irgendwie keiner:

Die Info dürfte zwar falsch gewesen sein, aber trotzdem kann man sich den Scans gar nicht entziehen:
““It is voluntary for customers to take part in any trial taking place – we are sorry that the incorrect information was relayed on this occasion,” the company representative told us. The company explained that you can opt out of the trial by asking a member of BA staff, but that that wouldn’t stop your image from being captured altogether. …
The scanning of your face when you first present your boarding pass at security – a procedure that’s carried out by the airport rather than the airline – takes place either way, and the only difference is that a computer confirms your identity instead of a person.”

Schnelligkeit, Sicherheit und Effizienz sind natürlich gute Argumente. Trotzdem werden da scheinbar wild Fotos gemacht und biometrische Daten angefertigt. Man kann eigentlich nicht wirklich aus. Den sicherheitstechnischen Aspekt habe ich noch nicht ganz verstanden.
Ich bin kein großer Fan der Bodyscanner. Ich verweigere sie eigentlich immer wo ich kann. Immer wo Daten gesammelt werden, können sie auch mißbraucht werden oder Fehler passieren. Wenn da wild Fotos gemacht werden und man eigentlich aus dem Versuch gar nicht aussteigen kann, dann ist das schon eigenartig. Den Bodyscanner kann ich ja auch verweigern …
